5 Things More Valuable Than Money

“You aren’t wealthy until you have something money can’t buy.”

Garth Brooks

There’s no doubt about it, a part of personal growth and development is financial stability and independence. However, people can get stuck on the financial part and forget that there are far more important things in life than money.

1. Loved Ones

The family and friends in our life are irreplaceable. Our community is what keeps us together and connects us all. The support they offer us in good times and bad can’t be bought. If you are lucky enough to have a good network of friends and family, cherish them.

Life is short and you never know when someone can be taken from this earth. Hug your loved ones a little tighter and make time for them when you can. It can be easy to bury our head in the sand and keep our nose to the grindstone. At the end of the day, work will always be there tomorrow!

2. Health

Health, whether mental, physical, or spiritual, can’t be bought. Taking time to exercise and eat healthy, and fueling your body with nourishing foods is so important. Fresh air, sunlight and meditation are great for all parts of our well being. When was the last time you did something to take care of yourself?

I’m a believer in that our health is all connected. If your physical health is poor, then your mental health will suffer, and vice versa. If you don’t take the time to care for yourself now, you will face the repercussions in the future. Invest in your health now, and your future self will thank you.

3. Experiences

Adventures, experiences, trips! If you spend your life saving money and staying home, what will you think about when you’re old and gray? If you’re still reminiscing on experiences from forever ago, it’s time to embark on some new ones!

When someone invites you to a concert, a hike, the beach, or to do something you’re unsure about, take the opportunity, and jump outside of your comfort zone. This is how we create those memories that mean so much to us. Sometimes things may go awry, but all we can do is laugh! Those are some of the best experiences in my opinion and I look back fondly on them.

4. Knowledge

Continuous learning is important for personal development. Making the space to expand your mind through reading books, watching documentaries, or listening to podcasts gives you something that you just can’t buy. Knowledge is power.

If someone is excited to share or teach you something, take that opportunity. The skills, knowledge, and wisdom you have today is all because of the actions you took yesterday. Learning to garden, water ski, or do the heimlich maneuver may seem insignificant or unnecessary now. When the time comes where that knowledge is needed, you’ll feel a sense of purpose being able to help and offer wisdom.

5. Purpose

Some of my clients struggle with finding their drive, their motivation, their purpose in life. This is a common problem that plagues us in today’s society. With all the distractions, it can be hard to tune in to yourself and find what your purpose is. Having a sense of purpose is so important, and for some people it just doesn’t come naturally.

Aimlessness or carelessness are not only terrible ways to feel, but a sad way to go through life. Living a life with intention and purpose is priceless. It’s something you have to find and build for yourself which makes it even more extraordinary.
